Expensive and dishonest. I went in with a check engine light, and they told me (correctly) that I needed a new catalytic converter, and I verified this with two other independent mechanics. They then quoted me $3500 for the repair, claiming that I wouldn't pass the smog test unless I bought the OEM cat (this was a lie). I asked them if it was worth it to pay the $3500, and they said yes (this was their second lie). My car itself is worth $2000 tops, with 200k miles on it. It is not even close to worth it to pay $3500 for a cat. I found out via two other mechanics that it is possible to get an aftermarket CA-approved catalytic converter that will pass smog for as cheap as $300-500. I called back to Toole's to ask if there was an aftermarket option, and the person said that there was, though it would still be $2000 (the original person I talked to claimed that there wasn't). I'm very glad that I got out of there paying only $180 for the check engine light diagnostic (also very expensive). *Edit in response to owner: No, you did know that there was a cheaper option. When I called back later, the person checked my file and said so. You simply elected not to tell me about the cheaper option up front. Dishonesty.
