While we service and repair most BMW models currently on the road, here is a list of BMW models we see most often in our shop (not because they break down most often, but rather because they are the most popular BMW vehicles around San Carlos):
BMW 3 Series is a compact executive car. Among the 3 Series models, we see plenty of BMW 325i, but the most popular is the BMW 328i. The most frequent problem with the 325 appears to be steering fault (2006 model), while the 2003 BMW 325 had a lot of electrical issues. As for the BMW 328, year 2000 model suffered from engine problems, while the 2007 model faced frequent electric pump failure.
BMW 5 Series is a full size executive car, and has been in production for over forty years. Naturally, current 5 Series models differ greatly from the early 5 Series vehicles. When it comes to frequency of visits, the runners-up in the 5 series models seem to be split pretty evenly between the BMW 528i and 535i, but m550i is definitely the most popular. The recurring problems we see with the 5 Series vehicles clusters around engine problems, most frequent in the 2011 BMW 550 and 2013 BMW 525, but overall we see few reports of recurring 5 Series problems.
BMW X Series offers full gamut of luxury SUVs – from subcompacts and crossovers, to the full-size BMW X7 luxury SUV. Our shop sees a lot of subcompact BMW X1, crossover BMW X3 and mid-size BMW X5. For the X1 model, seat belts/air bags problems are the most prevalent in the 2014 model, while the X3 model year 2013 leads the count with engine problems along with the 2011 X5.
BMW i3 – yes, we are delighted to see more and more BMW i3 electric vehicles. So far i3 has very few problem reports, the most frequent being 2017 BMW i3 suffering from adaptive cruise control problems. We do not know at this point if it was due to design problem, or calibration problems. As adaptive systems become more prevalent, we expect to see more calibration problems, not due to design issues, but because adaptive systems calibration requires specialized training and equipment – many auto repair shops, and many body shops, do not realize how sensitive adaptive systems are to poor calibration.
As your BMW ages, it will naturally require more maintenance and repairs. Our San Carlos auto repair shop not only offers full range of auto maintenance services, diagnostics and repairs, but we also offer complimentary digital vehicle inspection with every service or repair – we send you an electronic copy of the results, so you always have up to date information about the state of your vehicle.
